Two Months Later

Argh. I’m still on my back two full months after surgery to fix a displaced fracture of the tibial plateau in my right leg. As I have a whole page devoted to this, I’ll try not to bore you to tears here. Unfortunately, I can’t say I feel as though I’ve improved in any significant way for weeks now. My knee is still quite swollen, inflamed and throbbing in the morning and in the evening. I’m unable to bend it much more than ninety degrees when I hold it up in front of me, and far less than that when I try to lift my heel up behind me (maybe thirty degrees). The scar tissue seems to be impossible for me to break through under my own power. Dammit.

mmmm, shiny staples

Next week I meet with my doctor (one day after Obama takes over the presidency). He strongly suggested that I would probably begin weight-bearing by the end of this month. My inquiring mind wants to know what weight-bearing will mean. Will that help me make real progress in my recovery? When does physical therapy start? Argh.

I’d love to spend this whole year taking pictures, honing my skills, creating meaningful and engaging shots. This is difficult for me right now because I’m still recovering from a terrible knee injury, specifically a displaced fracture of the tibial plateau in my right knee. It’s a devastating injury, something I’ll probably blog about at some point. I haven’t been able to walk for about two months and when I am vertical, the pain gets to be pretty bad after about 10 minutes. Nonetheless, I’m upbeat about 2009, the year I’ll finally get to start walking again. And until then, I plan to keep on shooting, if for no other reason than that it keeps my spirits up and excites me about regaining my strength.

Here’s my first set of 2009.
